The centerpiece of the all-new Honda Insight is the latest Integrated Motor Assist IMA® system. This next-generation hybrid system benefits from everything we have learned as the first automaker to bring a hybrid to the market in the U.S., the original Insight. Compared to the system in the Civic Hybrid, the battery pack was improved, resulting in cost savings and reduced weight. Its location also allows for greater cabin space. The Insight features a highly efficient, 1.3-liter, 8-valve, i-VTEC® 4-cylinder engine and DC-brushless electric motor, and it's equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Safety for Everyone, on the hybrid for all.
All the advanced safety features you'd expect to find in a Honda are right there in the Insight—from airbags to Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure. ACE™ body structure increases Insight passenger protection, and makes it more crash compatible with vehicles of differing ride heights. The anti-lock braking system (ABS) uses a special modulator to pulse the brakes to help prevent wheel lockup, helping the driver retain steering control when braking hard. And the Electronic Brake Distribution system (EBD) balances the braking forces at each wheel according to how the car is dynamically loaded.

Featuring Efficiency
The Insight features an interactive, driver-focused fuel-economy enhancement technology [1] named Ecological Drive Assist System (Eco Assist™). [2] Eco Assist™ [2] is comprised of two main components: an ECON™ button [2] that modifies the way the car works, and a sophisticated feedback system. These components can work individually or in tandem to help boost your overall fuel economy. [1]
Touch of a Button
The driver-activated ECON™ Mode [2] kicks in when you press the green ECON™ button [2] on the instrument panel. This actually modifies the way your Insight operates, by optimizing control of the continuously variable transmission and engine.
Give Me Some Feedback
Eco Assist™ [2] also has a feedback function that uses Ambient Meter, the color enhanced speedometer background, to provide real-time guidance on environmentally responsible driving. When you're driving efficiently, the background color is green. When you are driving in a more aggressive manner, it turns blue. If your driving style is somewhere in between, the color is too, turning blue-green.
The Eco Guide function provides further feedback about current driving techniques, and an Eco Scoring function gives feedback on your cumulative, long-term driving style. As you drive more efficiently over time, the system rewards you with leaf icons and even a trophy when you become a real pro.

To this end, the new Insight was designed to be a 5-door hybrid with high fuel economy [1], an accessible price, and superior value.
One of the ways Honda has been able to make this car so affordable is to leverage existing technologies that we have developed for and perfected in other models such as the Civic and the Fit. These include some engine and chassis components. To retain value while lowering costs also requires ingenious and imaginative engineering solutions. For that, we looked to our talented engineers—and the IMA® system.
